Plasmas was the welders of choice for this job where a controlled and
consistent weld was required. Plasma also produces approximately 4 times
the number of welds before requiring electrode re-sharpening as compared
to “TIG”. Other considerations were taken to provide automatic part set
up, a pre-weld check to make sure an end plate is on the sleeve and that
the sleeve and endplate are placed squarely to each other and the
tooling fixture. All these features combined to provide a state of the
art production machine. The plasma welders were raised and lowered at the weld station using pneumatic cylinders. The 8 stations index table is also air operated. Controls are PLC with standard operator interface. All operator access doors are interlocked. Enclosure for PLC controls is at standing height, and all air controls are on a centrally located position for easy maintenance.
