This project required the ability to check the direction of rotation of the rotor during the normal final assembly test and do it without connecting to the motor shaft.  Indeed some motors did not have a shaft protruding beyond the endplate.

During the final motor test the motor is placed in a “V” block.  The motor position didn’t matter only the orientations front or back to be constant.  Sensors were placed on either side of the “V” block so as to detect a pressure different from one side to the other during initial start.  By processing this difference we were able to detect proper rotation, error or no rotation.

This project required creative engineering, design and building of the signal processing circuitry, the incorporation of a PLC and special programming.
