The SCRATCHED WIRE DETECTOR Model #LL013 is a quality control instrument that can Reduce Machine Down Time, Lower Scrap and Rework, Improves Motor Quality, Checks Every Motor Automatically, Decreases Load on Inspectors, Applies to Any Wire Processing Devices, and Indicates Winding Problems Immediately.

Take control of your production
 now with complete automatic inspection.

SCRATCHED WIRE DETECTORS

  1. Reduces machine down time by locating faulty tooling.
  2. Lowers scrap by stopping the winding operation before a large number of motors are wound.
  3. Lowers rework by reducing scratched wire problems generated at the winders.
  4. Improves motor quality by having assurance clean wire went into the motor.
  5. Every motor wound is checked during the wind and usually requires no additional operator duties.
  6. Indication of a problem is immediate, thus reducing large runs of problem motors.
  7. Once a problem has been corrected, you are assured of its correction by the absence of an alarm.
  8. Decrease load on inspectors in winding department.
  9. Identifies unacceptable wire immediately (bad wire located automatically before first motor is wound).

TYPICAL APPLICATION

  • These units can be coupled to any device processing insulated wire.  EXAMPLES:  Winders-Gun, Winders-Flyer, Winders-Shed,. Winders-Bobbin, Inserters-Coil, Coil Blocker, and Coil Forming Equipment.
  • This unit will monitor every metallic piece of tooling and guides. The wire comes in direct contact continuously during the winding of spooling of wire.
  • If any of the above tooling removes varnish or other wire coatings, an immediate alarm is registered to indicate trouble.
  • Knowing you have a tooling problem will allow you to stop and correct the trouble area.
  • Now that tooling is polished or replaced, a restart will assure the problem has been corrected and winding can continue.
  • Another feature of this unit is it will tell you if you are using wire with bad insulation.
  • This will usually cause an intermittent alarm signal showing bare spots or flaking insulation.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

  • Unit is connected to wire holding tooling that has been insulated from the machine's frame ground.
  • Wire is placed into holding device (on some machines the wire cut-off device can be modified to contact the wire and hold this wire for duration of wind).
  • In normal operation upon receipt of an input signal to the detector (due to an insulation fault) status, the indicator will illuminate until the fault has been interrupted.
  • All models are equipped with a push-to-test button that will allow manual test of detector.
  • All units contain an adjustable accumulator module that will allow for a certain number of faults during a wind, but will indicate after a preset condition.

OPTIONS
  • Built in solid state relay that can perform other remote functions such as sound an alarm, stop a system or wind until fault is cleared up.
  • Built in, fully functional LCD clock gives date, hour, minutes, and seconds on demand.

INSTALLATION (Easy to Install)
  • Installation is quick and simple on most equipment.  Unit is simply plugged into a convenient 115V. A.C. receptacle.
  • Sensing input is provided by the existing wire holding tooling on the machine under test, (Wire cut-off and hold tooling)
  • This tooling needs only be insulated from the machine frame and coupled to the unit input.  (This may require slight modification on some machines to provide the necessary wire contact).

LED. STATUS LIGHTS
  • Power on indicator - indicates that power to the unit is on.
  • 10 segment status indicator - Indicates faults on an accumulative scale that is directly controlled by the calibrated sensitivity control.

SOLID STATE CONSTRUCTION
  • Unit contains three integrated circuits and five transistors.  Optional 1 amp fused output is controlled by opto coupled Triac.
  • This unit is especially designed to be rugged, safe, and easy to install and maintain.
  • All solid state construction with no moving parts to wear out.
  • The unit is electrically isolated and operated from very low voltage.
  • Most equipment can be slightly modified to use the units.  We offer our assistance in the design and manufacture of outboard tooling if needed.
  • The simplicity of this unit makes it a must for all aspects of the coil winding industry.
  • All units have built in audio alarms to augment visual fault indicators.
ADJUSTABLE SENSITIVITY
  • Sensitivity is fully adjustable to cover any winding or spooling operation.
  • Sensitivity can be adjusted to correlate with existing test equipment.
Models Available
  • Model LL013
    • Will indicate intermittent faults but will allow a selected percentage of faults to register before sounding audio alarm.  Has adjustable percentage control to allow for acceptable bare spots on wire from manufacturer.  Lamp will extinguish if percent rate is not maintained.  Unit is equipped with a selectable latch.
  • Model LL0130
    • Like Model LL013 but has a fused 129 V.A.C. 1 amp receptacle activated with fault signal or test button.

Note:  Latch feature when in "ON" POSITION will maintain alarm signal once actuated.  Reset by switching latch to OFF.
