AUTOMOTIVE OIL PUMP TESTER GM

A tester was required to test oil pumps for a remanufacture.  Oil pumps were to be tested at a specific RPM and generate a specific oil pressure at a rated flow. The tester must be capable of setting and testing several pump models and related parameter.

The design incorporated an oil basin where fixturing quick coupled the submerged test pump to the appropriate parts.  Pump driver was supplied by use of an air motor.  Interchangeable orifices created the required flow rates and created the back pressure. Flow was monitored by use of a flow meter, pressure through use of a digital pressure meter and RPM by an encoder and digital display.  After pump test it is placed on a drain tray where oil is directed back to basin.

This project made use of air motor for controlled RPM, digital displays for data, and quick-connect fixturing in its design.
